Frederick Shakespeare Festival Auditions

AUDITIONS!

MAY 14 (4-7 pm) & MAY 15 (2-4 pm)

Endangered Species Theatre Project is mounting a production of Romeo & Juliet at the Hodson Outdoor Theatre on the Hood College Campus in Frederick, Maryland the first two weeks of August in 2021.Directed by Christine Mosere with Neil Sprouse as Assistant Director and Director of Artistic Sign Language. 

SAFETY: We take the safety of our actors and artisans seriously and will be following all State of Maryland, Frederick County COVID regulations as well as Actor’s Equity Association guidelines. All actors will need to be fully vaccinated by the first day of rehearsals.

 

ARTISTS:

Actors can submit a self-tape video link (can be unlisted or public link) to Christinem@esptheatre.org by May 14th OR sign up for a Zoom audition time slot here: 

 

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Actors may send any questions to Neil Sprouse, at neilsprouse@gmail.com.

 

Interpretation will be available at the  Zoom auditions (for those not submitting a self-tape) and at all callbacks.

 

Zoom audition dates:

Friday, May 14th from 4 – 7 p.m.
Saturday, May 15th from 2 - 4 p.m.

Callback Dates (all callbacks via Zoom)

Friday, May 21st and Saturday, May 22nd  

Interpretation will be available at each callback date

 

Audition Requirements:

  1. Two short contrasting monologues (one Shakespeare or Poetic in nature), or request sides if you do not have two monologues. 

  2. A recent headshot and/or picture and acting resume.

  3.  We'd also love to know about any musical instruments or special outdoor performance skills you might have (NOT REQUIRED FOR CASTING)

 

Performances:

Six Performances between August 1 and August 15 with an added understudy performance on August 16. Hodson Outdoor Theatre at Hood College.

 

NOTE: The following roles have been pre-cast:

Romeo (Joshua M. Castille*), Juliet (Surasree Das) *AEA actor depending on approval

 

OPEN ROLES:

We welcome performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, ages, as well as performers who are Deaf and any artists who have been historically excluded from our stages. Six to Seven actors to play the following roles:  

Tybalt, Benvolio, Friar Lawrence (looking for a Deaf actor -- fluent in ASL to play Friar), Duchess Escalus, Lady Capulet, Montague, Lady Montague, Paris, Balthasar, Apothecary, Sampson, Abrams, Gregory, Cooks, Chefs, Servants, Understudy for Romeo (Male identified character of any race – must be Deaf and ASL fluent - and there will be an understudy performance)
Understudy for Juliet (Female identified character of any race - there will be an understudy performance)

 

PAY:
Non-Union Stipend pay (between $300 and $500 depending on rehearsal time commitment.)

 

Union Contract dependent on AEA.

 

Travel stipends are given for those outside the Frederick area.

 

Rehearsals:
First read-through/some table work will happen the first week of June
Rehearsals begin June 20th (union actors begin after July 7th.)

NOTE: Rehearsals will take place in several ways  online, outdoor, and at times indoor socially distanced depending on weather.
